Croatia's coastline is made for catamarans. The thousand-plus islands create short daily hops, and many of the best anchorages are shallow, sheltered bays where a monohull would sit further out. A catamaran lets you anchor closer to the beach, stay level while swimming, and spread out on deck without stepping over each other.
Most Croatian catamarans are modern 40–50 ft sailing cats from Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Bali and Nautitech. They carry 6–10 guests in 4–5 cabins, with a galley-up or galley-down layout and a cockpit that flows into the saloon. Families and groups of friends book them first, often before monohulls, because the space per person is hard to beat.
Bareboat charter is possible if one crew member holds a valid skipper licence and VHF certificate recognised by the Croatian Ministry of the Sea. - Why charter a catamaran in Croatia?
- Croatia's anchorages are often shallow and protected. A catamaran's twin hulls draw less than a monohull of the same space, so you can tuck closer to the beach in bays like Sakarun or Lovišća. The platform is also level at anchor, which makes life safer for children and easier for mixed crews.
- How much does a catamaran charter in Croatia cost?
- Catamarans sit above monohulls in price. A 40–45 ft owner-style catamaran in June or September typically starts around €4,500–€6,500 per week; peak August weeks can double that. The price always includes VAT and insurance; add roughly 25–35% for transit log, final cleaning, outboard and fuel. We quote from live fleet data, not a brochure.
- Do I need a skipper for a catamaran charter?
- For bareboat charter, one person on the crew list needs a recognised sailing licence and VHF/SRC certificate valid in Croatia. If nobody holds one, we place an English-speaking local skipper on board at about €200–250 per day plus food. Many families take a skipper for the first day or two and then sail on their own.
- Which Croatian bases have the most catamarans?
- Split and Trogir hold the largest catamaran fleets and the shortest route options to Brač, Hvar, Vis and Korčula. Šibenik and Zadar are quieter alternatives with good access to the Kornati islands. Dubrovnik has fewer bareboat catamarans but more crewed options for the Elaphiti islands and Mljet.
- When should I book a catamaran in Croatia?
- July and August catamarans are usually 80% booked by March. June and September offer the best combination of warm water, steady maestral wind and lower prices. If your dates are flexible, May and October can be excellent, though the weather is less predictable.
- What is included in the price?
- The weekly charter fee includes the boat, VAT, insurance and usually bed linen. Extras paid locally include tourist tax, final cleaning, outboard engine, fuel, provisioning and any skipper or hostess. We itemise every cost before you confirm so there are no surprises at check-in.
- Can I get help in English before and during the charter?
- Yes. Our team speaks English and works directly with the fleet in Croatia. We re-check availability, send the crew list documents, and stay reachable by phone, WhatsApp and email from the first enquiry until you return to the base.
